While all those fruitless interviews were frustrating and disheartening, I can see that God had a plan for me to be at home to enjoy Rebecca's first 6 months.

And what a gift! We formed quite a close-knit little family in the last 8 months, and we're really missing each other now I'm at work. But thankfully my boss values family as strongly as I do, so the hours are very family-friendly.

So it's all falling into place...

We are proud to announce the birth of Rebecca Magdalene Harvey, weighing 3.35 kilos, 52 cm long. Living with the folks doesnt seem as bad as we feared. Such a spacious house! Gotta love this driving thing - no dressing up in bike gear, no standing around waiting for the bus. You just hop in the car and go! (About time we bought our own, though.)

Only one week to go... The removalists come on Wednesday, and we're off to New York on Monday. We've said so many goodbyes now we're almost getting good at it. Spent last weekend with a 3 week-old baby to get the lowdown on wiping bottoms and sleep schedules.

Logistics, logistics, logistics - Changing country is such a schlep. Not advisable when expecting your first child.

But just think, Monday week we'll be flying off to NY, LA & NZ, and a fortnight later we'll be sunning ourselves in our new deck chairs by the pool at my folk's place.

Sounds idyllic, if you forget that we're changing country, job, lifestyle, house, and very soon... nappies!

Everything's changing!

I could just say we're moving from London to Sydney in August, but when you realise that's because Sylvia's pregnant and she's due in October, you start to realise there's actually quite a lot going on. It's not just packing up our life and starting again from scratch, we've got only 2 months to reassemble a moderately organized life before it gets smashed to smithereens again by a screaming, pissing, shitting little alien that cant speak a word of English.

From here on in, the only constant in our life will be change. No, I dont feel prepared, but I can hardly wait!

I'm an Australian who loves God and his wife Sylvia, who spends more time than's healthy tinkering away at a keyboard. During the day, that's as a Front Office SQL/VBA/.NET Developer in Credit Derivatives (Credit Default Swaps). During the night, that was trying to get MythTV working with Compiz on openSUSE linux, but these days, it's full of the 101 things that need to be done to change country.

Becoming parents is our biggest journey yet, but I couldnt have chosen a better person to travel with.
